About Us

Born and raised in Harare, Colin completed his elementary and secondary education in Zimbabwe, and holds a B.A. degree in Sociology from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.

As a young boy growing up in Zimbabwe, Colin was passionate about doing something constructive for his country. His father devoted his entire life to the liberation of Zimbabwe, spending time in and out of prison.

 

In 1989, Colin decided to emigrate to America with his young family. He worked in the Mushroom industry for a while for a family, very instrumental in getting him to the States.

In 1991, Colin decided to take a trip back to Zimbabwe to visit family. During this visit and short trips around the country, he witnessed young men hand carving stone. Impressed by this talent he decided to buy a few pieces to see what kind of response he would get on his return to the States.

 

This was the beginning of a new era, as he realized his passion to help his countrymen was at his doorstep.

THOMPSON'S IMPORT/EXPORT INC was established DBA ZIMBABWE GALLERY. With the primary function of buying and selling stone sculpture from his mother land. 

​

This new journey took him on many buying trips to Zimbabwe and participating in many art shows around the USA from New York to Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, to Los Angeles. The response was exciting.

Meeting well known people such as Ambassador Andrew Young, Dr. Louis Sullivan, Patti La Belle, and the late baseball legend Hank Aaron who have made substantial purchases.

​

As the only Shona Stone Sculpture travelling gallery, Colin got to establish strong relationships with clients around the country. The relationship with many sculptors in Zimbabwe continues to develop and Colins passion to help his own countrymen is precious.
